Take Maria Klawe. She has PhDs in math and computer science, has spent eight years in industry (including being a research scientist at IBM), served as head of the Computer Science department at the University of British Columbia, and holds countless publications in algorithms research. Interestingly enough, what she _doesn't_ have is a business background.
